Holy Big Central. The entire specialization course is riddled with bugs, but the Billing and Coding essentials is the absolute worst. Won't let you progress past the third module. Apparently this falls in line with MedCerts in general...
This class won't teach you everything about Medical Billing and Coding but it will give you the very basics that you will need to get you started. It is a good starter for a brand newbie wanting to understand the terms and aspects of how billing and coding work in the healthcare realm of things.
I took a medical billing course on Coursera to gain a foundational understanding of the field, and overall, it was a great learning experience. I appreciated the flexibility of being able to learn at my own pace, which made it easier to balance with other commitments. The instructors explained complex billing concepts in a clear and simple way, making it accessible for beginners. However, I found that the course lacked hands-on practice, as there weren’t many interactive exercises or real-world claim processing tasks. Additionally, while the knowledge gained was valuable, the course alone isn’t enough for career placement since industry certification, such as CPC or CBCS, is still required. Overall, I would recommend Coursera’s medical billing courses to anyone looking for an introduction to the field, but for those seeking job-ready training, additional certification and hands-on experience would be necessary.

I have no prior experience in Medical Billing and Coding. This was very helpful in getting the essentials. Although I have a long way to go before I get my CPC certification, I feel like after this course, I will be much more confident in beginning those courses. This course was simple yet full of the information I needed to "get my feet wet" in the billing & coding world. I completed it all in 1 week, self paced. So thankful for Coursera!

While the content of this course was great for an entry-level learner, the format of the "Key Terms" videos made it very difficult to look for specific information. I also noted several issues in the course assignments which provided incorrect feedback (ex. the correct answer was selected but marked as incorrect, with feedback stating that the chosen answer is correct). There were also some questions related to content that had not been included in the material covered to date.
feels like this only touched on the surface knowledge, and the tests almost always had at least one answer that was a) not in the source material, b) referenced material that came later, c) was completely incorrect. good information, but I don't feel like this course would really help getting the certification.
