The Psalms offer a path to express a range of human emotion and to encounter God in a new way. In times of great joy or deep grief, how might the Psalms help shape who we are – and who we are to one another?
This course invites you to learn from experts in biblical interpretation and the arts to deepen your personal and communal engagement with the Psalms and the arts. In this course, you will meditate on psalms and artworks, engage with the Psalms theologically, explore artful interpretations of the Psalms, and examine the role of the Psalms in the life of the church. At the heart of the course and each session is a series of conversations with artists and scholars who give attention to the Psalms in their professional work and in their worship and prayer practice. This course is valuable for church leaders and members—individually or in community—who want to read and interpret scripture in conversation with the arts. You do not need to have a formal theological education to enroll in this course.

The translations by Dr. Ellen Davis are worth the course alone, so how much more excellent are these when interpreted by the several artists of excellence with whom Psalms and the Arts is constituted into a course of reflexive exploration of the height, depth, width and breadth of the songs rooted in the lived-life experience of what and who we are made fully alive before God!

Also for consideration, I advance the study of Stained Glass Windows (for the potent themes and the heroism highlighted in Sainthood emphasised- the tales they tell within are as adventurous and treacherous as the gothica and the angelic realms' outward promotion on buildings. For example, the Architectural Design for Houses of Worship from the newly renovated Notre Dame down to the American "Mega" Church phenomenon. The Cistern Chapel and The Tapestries and other Marble Statues and their artisans - these historical and poignant contributions to Religiosity in Cultural expression of Faith and why their significance was and still is relevant to our times: The masses could not read. I further proffer the inclusion of an appendage to this awesome cirriculum the power of the linkages between (1) Altars - "The Porch (King Solomon's Temple in Israel) and The Altar (both were entry to release lament occur even still today) (2) Doors - They time capsules that glow about Kingdom Culture and Kingdom Rule (3) Candles and the Minnoah and (4) Religious Movies can be explored as Statement Pieces too about our Faith. What themes are derived and/or address issues arising in Spirituality that influence Kingdom Culture and their Constructs inform the world around us.
